DigiGuide Episode Details

DigiGuide can and does support enhanced episode descriptions as well as episode and series numbers. We have slowly been adding this information for the most popular programmes but it is quite a lengthy thing to do.

Click to view the programmes we currently maintain daily with this information.

If you want a favourite programme of yours supported in this way, you can help us by sending us a file with this information in it.

What do you have to do? Well just follow the instructions below.

1. Create an episode file

The episode file is a plain text file that can be edited using a simple text editor such as NotePad. It consists of records and fields. Each record or broadcast programme is on a separate line and each field is separated by a TAB character (by pressing the TAB key, normally on the left side of the keyboard). The order of the fields is fixed and is as follows:

ProgrammeName<TAB>EpisodeName<TAB>SeriesNumber<TAB>EpisodeNumber<TAB>EpisodeSynopsis
ProgrammeName
Full name of the programme e.g. Spin City.
EpisodeName
Full name of the episode e.g. Goodbye, Part 1.
SeriesNumber
Number of the series. e.g. 4.
EpisodeNumber
Number of the episode in the series. (Not the production number.) e.g. 25.
EpisodeSynopsis
Full synopsis (or description) for the episode. It is best to not include the generic programme information like "US Sitcom about the deputy mayor of New York" and instead concentrate on what the episode is about. Also be aware of putting in too much information and giving away the plot. Some people dont want to know that "person Y got knocked down by criminal Z", and instead would be happy with "person Y gets an nasty shock". If you do not know the synopsis, simply leave the field empty. (But you must still include a <TAB> after the Episode Number)

Each file should contain the information for only one programme. Do not put more than one programme into an episode file, instead create separate files for each and send them all to us.

2. Send your episode file to us

All you need to do now is to e-mail this episode file to episodes@digiguide.com as a file attachment and we will import it into our database. (If you have several episode files, you can attach them all to the same e-mail if you wish.)

3. An example

Here is an example of how the first few episodes of the first few series of Episode Guide for Only Fools and Horses would be formatted in an Episode Detail file:

Only Fools and Horses<tab>Christmas Crackers<tab>Special<tab>1<tab>Christmas special of ...
Only Fools and Horses<tab>The Funny Side of Christmas<tab>Special<tab>2<tab>Del and Rodney are ...
Only Fools and Horses<tab>Diamonds Are for Heather<tab>Special<tab>3<tab>Del envisages Christmas ...
Only Fools and Horses<tab>Big Brother<tab>1<tab>1<tab>Rodney is having ...
Only Fools and Horses<tab>Go West Young Man<tab>1<tab>2<tab>
Only Fools and Horses<tab>Cash and Curry<tab>1<tab>3<tab>
Only Fools and Horses<tab>The Long Legs of the Law<tab>2<tab>1<tab>
Only Fools and Horses<tab>Ashes to Ashes<tab>2<tab>2<tab>
Only Fools and Horses<tab>A Losing Streak<tab>2<tab>3<tab>

The tabs are in red to make it easier to read. But remember that Episode Detail files must always be plain text files, and that tabs are entered by pressing the TAB key (not by typing '<tab>').

In this example the Episode Synopsis for everything after series 1, episode 2 are not known so they are left blank.
